This is the classic Shade Structure design that most of us are used to seeing. Also known as a shade mandala, these systems originally came from large-scale European-based electronic music events and have only recently become popular in North America. Pinwheels range in size from 40′-120′ in diameter and can be made as a hexagon or octagon shape. They use a perimeter of 12″ truss towers (generally 10′-15′ tall) along with a taller center 20.5″ box truss tower (generally 18-23′ tall). Each truss upright then receives a proprietary water jet cut powder coated mounting plate to accommodate rigging hardware. Next, the system is connected with perimeter cables, spoke cables, and tie-back straps that anchor to the earth with either ballasting or earth anchors. Finally, fabric panels are added.
